2020 November Running Totals

Dec 01, 2020
  • Total Distance: 180.0 miles (-20.4 miles)
  • Total Time: 24:57:44 (8:20/mile average)

The plan for November was to end at around 150 miles. I scaled back but not as much as I had originally planned. I wanted to ensure I had a safety net to accomplish the 2000 miles. I know how unpredicable Decembers are with the cold and the dark - motivation is hard to come by.

I didn’t do too many long runs this month. I topped 10 miles on a run only 4 times with the peak being 14 miles. I also took a 3 day break which my body desperately needed. It is always weird to take break when normal means running.

There really was only one run that stood out this month. It happened on the second to last day of the month - the 29th. The plan was to run 10 miles. As I started I knew it was going to special. I was going a little faster than I normally would be going at that time and decided I’d try to push it a little bit. I thought a 7:30 average pace would be an attainable goal. Mile 1 finished in 7:50. 20 seconds would need to be made up. Mile 2 finished in 6:59. All caught up and I was feeling damn good. Here are the splits:

  1. 7:50
  2. 6:59
  3. 6:45
  4. 6:44
  5. 6:24
  6. 6:39
  7. 6:26
  8. 6:22
  9. 6:29
  10. 6:26

Wow! I was excited to go at a 6:48/mile pace for 8+ miles last month and here I did a 10 miler in a 6:43/mile pace. The first one was even at a leisurely pace. I honestly think I could have kept that pace up for a half marathon - a 1:28:04 or a personal best by 5 minutes and 48 seconds. I had never run more than 10 miles at a sub-7 minute pace - my best is a 20k race I did in a 7:02 pace.

December really will be a lower mileage month. Running consistently has let me lose about 15 pounds this year but I’m still flabbier than I’d like. The plan is to start Insanity by Beach Body and hit that hard for the month. I’ll still do some running - enough to get to 2000 miles - but historically Insanity leaves me unable to walk for the first week due to severe muscle soreness.
