  • Total Distance: 217.2 miles (-25.6 miles)
  • Total Time: 29:37:51 (8:12/mile average)
  • Month Leaderboard: #4

Weekly Breakdowns:

  • 2/1 - 2/7 - 64.5 miles (#2)
  • 2/8 - 2/14 - 66.3 miles (#1)
  • 2/15 - 2/21 - 34.5 miles (#96)
  • 2/22 - 2/28 - 52.0 miles (#14)

The weekly breakdowns paint the picture for February. Marathon training progressed well. I only topped 60 miles once before. In February I did it twice in back-to-back weeks. Then everything deflated. The marathon announced a postponement and I lost motivation. I still got out but took 3 days off of running in week 3. It sucked but my body needed the break.

I’m capable of running without a goal but I wanted a carrot. A friend sent details about a marathon/half marathon with intense COVID rules. I felt good so I bit the bullet and signed up. I dropped down to the half marathon. It turns out marathon training requires a lot of time. More than I want to dedicate for another canceled race.

Half marathons are a good distance. My base is close to half marathon distance. I can focus on speed work instead of time on feet. Signing up for the half marathon saw an increase in miles during week 4.

The last long run of the month was a 10 miler. I pushed it after mile 1. Mile 1 was 8:15. Then I stepped up. I hit several 6:2x miles. It felt great. There are 2 months between now and the race. I keep this up then it’s a massive PR in my future.
